There’s a buzz in Wauwatosa—and it’s all thanks to Highlands Honey, a family-run business that started in the backyard of Bryan Bergner and his son, Miles.
Back in 2014, Miles was just 6 years old when his dad set up their very first hive. What began as a small family project quickly grew into something bigger—a way to teach Miles about hard work, responsibility, and the basics of running a business. Soon, their shared hobby blossomed into a meaningful father-and-son venture.
Now, at just 17, Miles is an entrepreneur running his own successful business. Highlands Honey has expanded to 31 hives across Wauwatosa and Franksville, WI. His hard work and dedication show that you’re never too young to chase your dreams and make them happen. With each jar of honey he produces, Miles proves that determination and creativity can turn even the smallest idea into something truly sweet.
But Highlands Honey is about more than just producing honey—it’s about putting the bees first. With a “bee-centric” approach, Bryan and Miles harvest their honey carefully, by hand, and in small batches. Their honey is also coarse-filtered, so all of the natural flavors and nutritional qualities are preserved. Every jar reflects their commitment to sustainability, respect for nature, and the well-being of their buzzing pollinators.
You’ll find their honey at local farmers markets (including the beloved Tosa Farmers Market) and in a handful of neighborhood shops that proudly support local makers. In addition to their pure, raw honey, Highlands Honey also creates honey lollipops—a sweet spin on their already delicious product.
From a single backyard hive to a cherished local staple, this story is a perfect example of how passion, family, and community roots can turn into something truly special.
