Milwaukee is a “foodie” town all year long, but summer is a great time to take advantage of some seasonal events and offerings. Even though I have lived here for over 20 years, I still like to visit Milwaukee like a tourist.
Visit a Pizza Farm
There are a few farms within an hours’ drive of Milwaukee that do pop-up pizza nights. Bring the kids and make sure to check their websites to see if you need to reserve a spot. These events sell out quickly! There is often also live music and beer and cocktails available. These are two of my favorites:
Take a Food Tour
Milwaukee Food Tours offers walking tours of different Milwaukee neighborhoods. The tours range from $30 – $99 and last between two and four hours. Grab tacos and margaritas or sample different Italian foods. This is a fun thing to do with a bunch of friends or perfect for a date.
Grab Fresh Ingredients at a Farmers Market
The season is short for Wisconsin farmers to show off their goods, so take advantage of it while you can. Almost every city has their own, so swing by and grab some ingredients for dinner, or stay and hang out to enjoy an iced coffee and a pastry.
Cathedral Square: Sundays 9 AM – 1 PM
Enderis Park: Sundays 9 AM – 1 PM
Brookfield: Saturdays 7:30 AM – 12 PM
Fox Point: Saturdays 8 AM – 12 PM
West Allis: Tuesdays & Thursdays 12 – 5 PM | Saturdays 1 – 5 PM
Go to the State Fair!
I go to the Wisconsin State Fair EVERY. YEAR. I love it. Head straight for the cream puffs. Get a piece of corn and a deep-fried Oreo, and then walk it off at the Wisconsin Products Pavilion. Watch the piggies race, slide down the big slide, and check out the baby animals. This year, it’s scheduled for August 1 – 11.
