Karen shares the best spots to pick your own apples this fall.

Nothing tastes more like fall than apples you picked yourself. The season is short, so take advantage of these charming farms. Here are a few of my favorites.

Peck & Bushel Organic Fruit Co. | 5454 County Rd Q; Colgate, WI 53017

This farm is southeast Wisconsin’s only organic apple farm, with more than 30 organic varieties. Picturesque landscaping is perfect for fall photos, and the apple cider doughnuts are to die for.

Pro Tip: Arrive early to avoid crowds.

Barthel Fruit Farm | 12246 N Farmdale Rd; Mequon, WI 53097

This is a no-frills experience, where you can get your apples, cider, and baked items and get out. This is not your all-day event and is perfect if you just want to get some apples for a pie or the kids’ lunches. The prices are also very competitive.

Pro Tip: If you do want to linger, there’s a small beer/wine garden—and it’s kid friendly, too.

Elegant Farmer | 1545 Main St; Mukwonago, WI 53149

Known for their Brown Paper Bag Sky-High Apple Pie and market filled with local products, the Elegant Farmer also features activities on Saturdays and Sundays for the kids. Explore the corn maze, orchard, and train museum—you can even take a train ride!

Pro Tip: Don’t leave without Wisconsin-made pickled vegetables or delicious apple pie.

Apple Holler | 5006 S Sylvania Ave; Sturtevant, WI 53177

This is a whole-day event, with a Family Fun Park, restaurant, apple picking, a country store, and more. The restaurant serves breakfast all day long during the week. Lean into the kitsch. This farm is best for smaller children and families.

Pro Tip: Go during the week when crowds are smaller and take home the apple cider.
